Forum: GratefulDead Subject: A seasonal request

My better half just me what I'd like for christmas and usually I just suggest a Dead DVD or a Dead Book - I'm easily pleased. This year, money's tight, so I have to be selective. Recently, I've had my eye on the Other Ones live CD, The Strange Remain, sparked by my interest in Bruce. But I'd also like to have Three from the Vault, because I just love that show. And there's 'Garcia' by Blair Jackson, or Hunter's 'Box of Rain' or the 'Grateful Dead and Philosophy' or a Dick's Pick or the Zabriskie Point soundtrack...the list could go on forever...

I just wondered if you could help me out either with endorsements for any of the above or recommendations for something completely different or suggestions for what you'd like for christmas.
:¬)

ps if mercy's in business, I wish some relief from the pain for one (or two?) of my fellow posters.

The Banyan Tree
Lyrics: Hunter
Music: Weir, Hart

Running down the muddy road
A hundred miles from hope
Dangling from a banyan tree
I see a length of rope

Behind me is a tiger
And a killer with a knife
One wants me for supper
And the other wants my life

I got no choice but to grab
The rope and start to climb
The situation here is such
The choice was never mine

Hand by hand I pull my body
From the mucky ground
Up into the sunshine
Where the birds are flying round

I just keep on climbing 'cause
There's nothing else to do
My hands are getting tired
But my spirit pulls me through

Don't know if the tree is high
Or if the clouds are low
Pretty soon I'm looking down
A hundred miles below

The Earth is spinning blue and green
Beneath my dizzy eyes
But I leave caution to the faint
And reason to the wise

I see another climber and
I think it could be you
Climbing up a length of rope
Where stars come shining through

Was it hope of freedom
Or panic born of fear
Sent you climbing for your life
Up in the stratosphere?

I got no fear of falling
And I got no fear to fly
I believe my soul will live
Although my body die

Maybe I am right in that
And maybe I am wrong
I just keep on climbing
And sometimes I make a song

This is not the way I chose
The way has chosen me
Dangling to the muddy road
Beneath the Banyan tree

Hi JH,

If you haven't got it already go for the Garcia Shoreline DVD. I can't praise this enough - the music is outstanding, and the camerawork and production are perfect.

Thanks Snori. This treasure already occupies pride of place in my collection courtesy of my good friend, ganges.

Agreed. How about the Dear Prudence on that one? Unreal.

Tito&Smokey

Thank you for your response. I'm not sure how to respond back because I don't really know you. I stopped reading your posts because I didn't understand them and because you always seemed to be attacking the people whom I hold in regard. I can see that you like being here on the forum from the number of posts you make and I would like to help you because I've been where you seem to be but you'd need to meet me half way.

I'm not sure if the items you mentioned are suggestions for me or a wish list for yourself, but I've read the Scully book and it's a good read but I take it with a pinch of salt because I'm not sure how much of it is self-aggrandisement. The DPs I'll need to investigate.

well, its a helluva lot better than the Steve Parish book.People seem to think that if someone talks dirt about someone in a book, its a lie.Dude, the GD is a rock and roll band. They were womanizing, fighting, drug addicts, like all rock bands. If you want truth, you gotta handle some seediness. It is what it is.Garcia was a crackhead, deadbeat dad, junkie, slob, ornery ashhole, money hungry commercial guy(ties?ice cream?)( and i love the guy),kruetzman got drunk and assualted people all the time,Mydland beat his wife,Weir was a coke fiend that banged any broad he could get his hands on,the list goes on.If you think these guys were "kind hippies" into the 80s and 90s you live in a fantasy world.........The Phil Book is a decent read.and Hunters "Box of Rain"is just the Lyrics to Hunters songs, which you probably know all the lyrics already, although it is a must have in my mind.
The DPs i wrote are epic and all-time.

I had some friends in Oakland's Chinatown seen Tito at a restaurant with an apparent Local friend (smokey brother maybe) eating Jellyfish with their favorite snack food.

The Waiter stated "THAT ASSHOLE IS SMALL TIPPER", my friends told me later.

They were seen again in the Lake Merritt Tunnel after a show at the Kaiser. It was quite cold and frosty the night, so tito&smokeybro were trying to stay warm and really moving to the echoes.

They were most likely doing "Mr. Bill" paper. So Tito lost it and took it out on smokbro. The police were called, a report was filed w/ photos of smokbro after the incident.

I guess smokbro was dispointed about tito's tip.

The two never made it to Fairyland that week.

I guess Tito flew to LA to buy a book in the valley.

Tito&Smokey

Have you considered that we're all aware of this? We may all be in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars.
I don't wish to get into ping-pong posts but if you'd like to continue this dialogue you can contact me at jerrobhungar@yahoo.co.uk. I don't like to put a condition on this but as a sign of good faith, I'd be grateful if you would try to refrain from making negative posts about other forumites.

Sorry, can't help with the request as I am unfamiliar with most of the items pricewise and such, but had to add a second to your emotion.
